Murchison Gorges

A power dinghy expedition from Yallalong Station to Galena and then upriver through the Murchison River Gorges after Cyclone Clare in 2006

Rains from Cyclone Clare and local thunderstorm in the upper reaches of the Murchison River caused a considerable flow in January 2006.  Continuing rains caused roads to be closed and the day before departure the Start Point had to amended from Milly Milly Station to Yallalong Station.

We drove into the flooded Yallalong crossing via the Coolcalalaya road, put the boats into the water and powered through to Galena Bridge on the North West Coastal Highway.  Overnight at Riverside Sanctuary.

Day two was a run upriver from Kalbarri to the Z Bend and return.
