The Barnett River rises at 16 18′ 34″S 125 59′ 39″E, near the foot of Mount Lacey in the Caroline Ranges, and flows about 96 kilometres generally southwards, then south-west, south and south-east, passing Mount Barnett on the west, before joining the Hann River near Harris Creek.
The course of the Barnett River was first shown on public plans produced in 1900.
Modern day travellers encounter this river at the Mt Barnett Roadhouse when on the Gibb River Road.
