Snake Show, Khon Kaen

King Cobra Village, home of the mildly-famous King Cobra Show, is located at Ban Khok Sa-nga in Nam Phong District.

The snake show dates to 1951 when it was introduced by the local doctor, Ken Yongla, to provide an alternative source of income for the villagers

The village temple, Wat Si Thamma, is the venue for this alternative-style entertainment. While some look askance at what is essentially a community effort, it does meet animal welfare guidelines. It is said that, cobras are kept by every household in the village and are considered part of the family.

There a mini zoo display of live snakes adjacent to the Wat.

The show consists of different demonstrations include a snake dancing, taunting/dodging/mesmerising, and handling. Members of the audience can be photographed with snakes, if they wish.

The King Cobra Village is located at Ban Khok Sa-nga, approximately 50 kilometres north of Khon Kaen on Mittraphap Road. Audience can pay as much as they wish for the show.

Snake Show apart, the main income for the village is growing rice and sugar cane, and distributing various medicinal herbs.
