THE YILGARN GOLDFIELDS
The Route to Golden Valley

Information on these watering places has been derived from a sketch map compiled by Mr H.E. Parry, Certified Engineer, in January 1888, on which additions have been made by Charles. Adams – listed as being the District Constable.
It is possible that Charles Frederick Adams was conflated with his father Thomas Adams.
YORK TO YILGARN
Malebelling Well, 16 km permanent water and good feed.
Skeleton Pool 8 km.
Belmunging, 10km.
Youndegin, 29 km. Permanent water and good feed.
Tammin, 31 deg. 39 min. 49 sec. 24 km.
Minkadine, 8km, permanent water and good feed.
Naraline Spring, 3 km.
Milligan, 11 km.
Woolering Spring, 6 km.
Nalyaring, 6 km, permanent water and good feed.
Manyanine, 6 km, permanent water and good feed.
Durokopping, 3 km.
Cotcheotching, 81 deg. 19 min. 45sec, 11km, soakage, and good feed.
Wilburncobing, 13 km; well, 11 km.
This point is also reached by a direct line from Cotcheotching. Three km further on there is another well midway between which and Mangowine, a distance of about 10 km, is the Cowardine tank.
Mangowine is 18 km from the well.
Dandanning, 8 km.
Cootaning, 21 km, permanent water and good feed. From this point the route lies almost due east as far as
Geelakin Spring, where there is a permanent good supply of water.
Belagin, and then to
Barcooting, near Yilgarn Hills; where there is a well but the water is not permanent.
From Barcooting the track heads south, crossing the chain of lakes which lies to the south of the route, and
Golden Valley
The course may be varied by striking the Northam-Goomalling/Toodyay-Goomalling route, either at Butterley’s station or at Yarragin, and 10 km from the latter point (Hamersley Hill) there is a native well with fair feed.

Bibbakine, 3 km. Water permanent.
Cockerdine. 5 km. Water permanent.
Salt River, 6 km. Not permanent.

Bengyberring, 11km. Two wells close to the road but the supply is not permanent. There is also good feed.
Between five km and six and half km miles further on there is a gully with good soakage but not permanent.
Wyalkatchem, 11 km (from Bengyberring).
Corrologging, 6 km. Tree marked “water half mile south” Supply not permanent.
Gabwotting, 5 km. Soakage.
Moonabndding, 10 km. Good feed. Well close to road. Not permanent.
Yelbeni Well, 10 km.
Calcubbing, 3 km. Sand hole close to road. Not permanent.
Bilvermonging, 3 km, sand hole and swamp right side of road, not permanent.
Trayning, 10 km, good feed, well, good supply, not permanent.
Moujakine (C. Glass’s station), 10 km, water in tank, good supply.
Butterley’s Station, 10 km. Good supply of water.
Babalin, 23 km. Running water. Permanent and good feed.
Dandyanring, 21 km. Sand hole.
Calcutting tank, 10 km. Not permanent.
Wilgoyne (Lukin’s homestead), 16 km. Good supply of water.
Malancubbing Well, 16 km. Not permanent.
Elachbutting, 10 km. Well about 1 and half km from road, close to hill on NE side.
Wialyahmoning, 19 km. Little water in gully on south side of road. Not permanent.
Eenuin, 29 km. Water not permanent.
There is another route from Wilyhamonning to Calbin, north of that to Enuin, a distance of 23 km, where there is a permanent small supply of water. Both these places are, it is needless to say, in the neighbourhood of Mr. Anstey’s reef, the journey thence to Barcooting, and from that point as described in the route from York to Golden Valley, completing the course.
