Barlangi Rock was formed when a meteorite smashed into the area about 1000 million years ago. The resulting crater has disappeared but would have been no less than 10 kilometres in diameter.
Shatter cones are visible all around Barlangi Rock. These are formed by the very high shock pressures resulting from the intensity of the impact.
There is a detailed information board at the Rock.
