LOW PRESSURE LPG BOTTLES
LPG bottles from 1kg through to 4kg with a male 3/8″ left hand BSP thread that points directly up from the top of the bottle are often termed ‘Companion’ or 3/8″ BSP.
Larger 4kg to 9kg LPG bottles with a female fitting that points out sideways from the bottle are known as POL (derived from the manufacturing company, Prest-O-Lite). The newer POL bottles (see below) have a connector that allows for a male or female fitting/connector.
POL TYPE 21 BOTTLES
LPG bottles with the old style Type 21 connector are being phased out over a 10 year period from 2021.
POL TYPE LCC27 BOTTLES
- LCC27 fitting incorporates a male and female thread.
- This gas bottle valve incorporates a check valve that will enable gas to flow only when a gas tight connection is made, reducing the risk of high pressure gas escaping if the cylinder valve is opened during transportation or disconnected during use.
This LCC27 LPG bottle was introduced in April 2021. The LCC27 connector has an outside thread that will accept a forklift bottle connector. From 2022 all new BBQs and other appliances will have the same connector (i.e. they will be able to use the outside thread).

340mm wide x 265mm high. 7 litre capacity
9kg (8.5kg) LPG Bottle
460mm wide x 310mm. 17 litre capacity
3/8″ BSP (‘COMPANION’) LPG BOTTLES
ADAPTORS
- 3/8′ BSP fitting to POL bottle.
- POL fitting to 3/8″ BSP bottle.
FITTINGS
Fittings must be secured very firmly to operate correctly. If the check valve does not have a gas tight connection no gas will flow to the appliance. This check valve also precludes the common practice of opening the valve to vent gas (“Checking to see if there is gas in the bottle’).
