If you intend to stay in KK for any length of time it would be beneficial to get a Thai bank account. Payment at vendors by ‘Scan’ is easy and convenient, virtually endemic in Thailand. However, to access ‘Scan’ you will need a Thai bank account. Officially, you need a visa to get a bank account but, as with everything in Thailand, it depends.
Rules are flexible and transitory. Experiences differ (seems to be dependent on the individual bank officer). Government edicts vary in their application.
Sourcing an account in rural areas may be fruitful but be aware, depending on the bank, that you will be will charged for both deposits and withdrawals made in KK – although there is the smartphone facility for cardless withdrawals that won’t attract a fee.

Just get one. Most countries have treaties with Thailand where motor drivers licences are reciprocally recognised but if you think a cop at a road block is aware of this you are dreaming. International Drivers Licences (issued mostly by non-govt entities) are a scam but seem to be recognised (go figure). Just get a Thai licence. You will have to watch a video that is more excruciating than ‘Thai dramas’ but it will ultimately be worth it.

Cockpit – the person you will speak with doesn’t have the authority to discount prices more than what is published in their brochures/website. They will reject (i.e. lose) your business for 500THB even though you are on the premises as a prospective buyer. Walk away.
Tyre retailing is not the competitive arena you might be used to (Australia, etc).
B-Quick – similar to above. Depends on who you encounter when you arrive. No bargains at these ‘big box’ stores unless there is a ‘promotion’ happening.
Always ask what the price includes as they might try to clip you (actual experience) for:
Balancing
Mounting (Seriously – I have been quoted extra for this after enquiring about replacing all four tyres. I suppose I could have been buying the tyres to mount on my lounge room wall.)
Inflation (seriously – did they think I was going to drive away on flat tyres)!
Nitrogen (seriously – air is 78% nitrogen!)
Free Wheel Alignment every 10,000km is generally included in price but get vouchers to ensure this is honoured.
Some tyre outlets (inc ‘big box’ stores) will offer only 4 months warranty – walk away. Should be between 12 months and 5 years.
Discounts are miserly (3% and, if you’re lucky, up to 10%). Makes you wonder what GP the business is operating on and what is their marketing strategy.
