Wayne Monks worked in field exploration roles with Anaconda Australia during the 1968-1972 nickel boom. He then spent 11 years with WMC Resources at the Kambalda Nickel Operations and 4.5 years with Central Norseman Gold Corporation. He became the Chief Accountant at both operations.
Overall, Wayne spent 20 years working in the goldfields at Kambalda, Norseman, Widgiemooltha, Coolgardie and Yakabindie.
However, he spent more than 25 years in various roles in the mining industry, including senior roles for 20 years with WMC in Melbourne and Adelaide.
His great grandfather and his brother formed Kidman and Company and bought out Cobb & Co in the late 1890s, operating across the entire Goldfields from Esperance to Wiluna.
His grandmother and her sister and husband moved to Kalgoorlie-Boulder from Broken Hill in the late 1890s. Wayne’s uncle was Company Accountant and later General Manager of the Golden Horseshoe Mines.
Wayne is a member of the Eastern Goldfields Historical Society.
