Unique Wreath Flowers of Western Australia

Wreath Flowers

Wreath flowers grow to approximately 50mm high by 400mm across. It is wreath like in shape with succulent branches radiating out from the centre. The plant flowers August to October and dies back to root stock during summer.

It grows best in disturbed areas (burnt, graded) and is unique to a narrow area of Western Australia 150 km x 400 km (East Kalbarri to east of Wubin).

The wreath flower’s scientific name Lechenaultia macrantha K.Krause (commonly spelled Leschenaultia macrantha) commemorates French naturalist Jean Baptiste Leschenault de la Tour. K.Krause is the name of the botanist who first formally described the plant.

It is related to the commonly cultivated blue leschenaultia and red leschenaultia that are often seen in Perth gardens.
