Balladonia-Zanthus Track

The Balladonia-Zanthus Track starts adjacent to the Balladonia Roadhouse and finishes 168 kilometre to the north at Zanthus, a service centre for the Trans Australia Railway.

The southern portion of the Track is very sandy and deeply rutted. A standard dual cab 4WD ute would have difficulties maintaining forward momentum and even staying on the track. A non-lifted vehicle would bottom out. The deep ruts take control of the steering and driving safely is a challenge.

Further north there are numerous shotlines on both sides of the track. as a result of exploration activity by IGO Exploration, searching for nickel. Inattentive drivers not expecting other vehicles present a very real danger in this area.

Lightning strikes in 2019 caused severe fires, devastating huge swathes of the Great Victoria Desert and fringing areas.
