Gunbarrel Highway

Ngaanyatjarra Council Permit (Western Australia):

Required for the section between Wiluna and Warburton (including the Heather Highway). Access to the ‘abandoned’ original section of the Gunbarrel Highway is universally denied  – effectively making traverse of this route unavailable.

Western Australia Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage Permit:

A second permit, in conjunction with the Ngaanyatjarra Council permit, is required for transit through Western Australia native title lands.

For the NT section, travellers driving along the Tjukaruru Rd between the WA/NT/ border and Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park can apply for a transit permit from the Central Land Council (NT).
