Fuel Requirements

The vehicles will be heavily laden. The surface on which they will be travelling is mostly unsealed.

The ‘base’ fuel usage is 11L/100 km. It is posited that additional fuel will be required when driving these Legs:

• Gunbarrel Highway +30%
• Simpson Desert +50%
• Corner Country + 30%

Refuelling Strategy

In certain areas fuel gets progressively more expensive as we get more remote. In these circumstances the strategy is to depart each successive location with full tanks so the subsequent, more expensive quantities purchased are reduced.

These locations are:

• Meekatharra to Wiluna to Carnegie (before Gunbarrel Highway transit)
• Alice Springs to Kulgera to Finke to Mt Dare (before Simpson Desert crossing)

In other Sectors we can utilise the extended range of vehicles to bypass expensive fuel locations

These locations are:

• Yulara to Alice Springs (possible ‘splash and dash’ at Hermannsberg)
• Bourke to Goondiwindi
