Outback Gorges

A 10-day Road Trip from Perth in August 2017 to see some spectacular riverine gorges at Nullagine and Karijini.

The plan was for participants to make their own way to Paynes Find on Friday. The convoy would then make its way through Youanmi, Sandstone, Meekatharra and overnight at Doolgunna Station.

We would work our way north along the bitumen to Nullagine and stay at Running Waters before heading to Carawine Gorge the next day.  Through the Ripon Hills to Marble Bar and on to world class Karijini National Park. After a full free day at Karijini we would make our way to Mount Augustus via Tom Price and Ashburton.

Another full free day was allowed at Mount Augustus.  We would then continue south through the Murchison station country to Poondarrie Rocks.  From there it was back to Perth via Mingenew.

Day 1- Perth to Paynes Find

Day 2 – Paynes Find to Doolgunna

Day 3 – Doolgunna to Skull Springs

Day 4 – Skull Springs to Carawine Gorge

Day 5 – Carawine Gorge to Karijini

Day 6 – At Karijini

Day 7 – Karijini to Mount Augustus

Day 8 – At Mount Augustus

Day 9 – Mount Augustus to Poondarrie Rocks

Day 10 – Poondarrie to Perth

We tried a few initiatives to keep the evenings lively. Mike’s ‘Pictionary’ was extremely popular but not as popular as the evening cocktails! The hard-fought Damper Competition was a winner.  The ‘Loud Shirt Day’ will be given a rest for a while. The Rockwiz worked well.

A definite highlight was the Remtrek Astronomy night at Dales Gorge, Karijini, hosted by Phil Witt.  This 2½ hour presentation under the stars with three massive telescopes for participants is excellent. Highly recommended 0432 095 268.
